Monkeypod, and it's similar looking relative called parota wood are beautiful tropical woods. They are sustainably harvested by our supplier on a reforestation project they have had for over 30 years in Costa Rica. Monkeypod has some of the most beautiful long contrasting graining you will find, as well as some spectacular crotch and burl graining. What also helps define monkeypod and parota is it's distinct white sapwood that acts as a frame to the chocolate colored hues of the heartwood. Monkeypod and parota are large shade trees, which means they need huge, wide trunks and long thick branches. Parota seems to be a little softer than monkeypod and is a little less expensive, but in furniture, they often get mistaken for each other, so frankly we are lumping them together in this section.
